The Emperor - Tarot

The Emperor encourages us to be our own authority. It’s time for us to step up into our power and to trust our own wisdom and experience. We need now to be confident in our own abilities and to stop looking to others to tell us what to do and how to do it. If we have been giving our power away to someone or something else, we now need to take responsibility for ourselves and take our power back. The Emperor calls us to take care of our own kingdom. To be the ruler of our own lives and to have the discipline to create what we want to create in this world. He reminds us that if we want something to get done, we need to be the ones to do it.

The Emperor can bring up a lot of fear around the theme of Power. The Emperor is encouraging us to step into our Power and to be a Leader in this world. However, as we have generally experienced extreme and unhealthy examples of this, we may shy away from this responsibility believing that it is better to play small than to appear powerful.

The Emperor is here to show us that there are healthy expressions of power, and it is up to us to discover this part of ourselves and use this power to create rather than destroy. The Emperor can lead us to Peace or to War. An abuse of power comes from fear and the need and to control the world outside of ourselves. Healthy power comes from a place of love and is about control and discipline over ourselves to work from this place of love rather than our fears. A leader who leads through this example of self-control and discipline will encourage great things in others. A leader who leads through control, manipulation, abuse and violence will encourage war, destruction and mayhem in others.

Positions of power come with great responsibility and can change to world for the better or for the worse. It not the power itself that is the problem, just how we wield it that determines what we create or destroy. The Emperor is here to show us our power and to encourage us to use in ways that uplift, inspire, and support healthy change. We do not have to be afraid if we can trust the integrity of who we are.

A common word associated with the Emperor is Respect. Respect that is earned through acts of kindness, compassion, love and peace is different than a respect that is forced through fear and violence. People who demand respect without earning it through the example of their character and actions are not healthy examples of this Emperor energy. We are coming to a time and place where we are evolving our ideals around what we want leaders to be within this world, and the Emperor is asking us to step up and be the example that this world now needs. It’s not a time to hide from this power, but instead to fully embrace it and the responsibility that goes with it so that the world can experience a different kind of leader. One that is loving, kind, respectful and compassionate to all life here on earth and leads through the example of this energy that they have already cultivated within themselves.
