We are both Human and Spirit. One is not separate from the other. Our Strength comes from us being able to integrate both of these parts within ourselves and our weakness is in trying to separate them or believing that one aspect is more superior than the other.
Our human side acts from a place of desire and survival. Our spiritual side acts from a place love and compassion. Both sides are a part of our human experience, and it is through accepting and integrating both aspects that we are able to learn and grow.
Strength reminds us that our spirit has come here to have a human experience. It’s not about trying to live a perfect and pious life. It’s about the adventure of being human and all the messy experiences that come with it. We are meant to learn, grow and evolve and to do so we must allow ourselves the chance to experience all that life has to offer. Which means making mistakes, taking stupid risks and falling flat on our face. None of this is ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’, it’s just life as a human and it’s these things that help us to learn and grow. If we are ‘perfect’ all the time, we would never change or grow. It’s when life gets messy that we discover our true Strength and are given a chance to evolve.
The other side of this is learning to cultivate our spiritual self which is our unconditional love and compassion. Strength is our ability to forgive and accept our perceived mistakes and failures with this love and compassion. We need to learn to offer ourselves compassion and understanding for our human experience, rather than condemning ourselves for it. Strength is our ability to integrate the lessons of our mistakes in a loving way, rather than punishing ourselves for them. Remembering that as long as we are punishing and berating ourselves, we cannot move from our mistake to a lesson learned. Strength reminds us that in order for something to shift from mistake to wisdom, we must be able to forgive ourselves.
It takes a great deal of self-control and mastery to be able to forgive. This is not just something we do once and that’s it. This is something that we need to practice every single day. Our human experience is full of perceived errors from the tiniest accidents to incredibly large failures. Without compassion and forgiveness, we could never survive this human experience. We are asked through Strength to find this compassion within ourselves and to practice it every day, so that we can shift our experience from punishment to growth and wisdom. When we are able to do this for ourselves, we are then able to do this for others.
Through this compassionate understanding we then allow others the chance to grow and evolve too. Again, this requires an incredible amount of self-control and mastery to keep coming back to a place of love, acceptance and forgiveness that isn’t so easy, especially when someone hurts us. However, when we condemn and punish, we don’t allow a person to change and we perpetuate an energy that keeps them and us stuck in a loop of suffering rather than allowing space to learn, integrate and grow. We are reminded through Strength that it takes more courage and power to forgive than it does to hold a grudge.
When we are able to integrate our mistakes into lessons and allow others to do the same, we are able to see ourselves and others through our growth rather than our failures. This is truly powerful and inspiring, as it is not how many times we fail that matters, but how many times we get back up and keep going that shows how strong we really are.
